McCurry, The Pursuit of Color, a new feature length film directed by Denis Delestrac, will have its world premiere at DOC NYC Documentary Film Festival on Saturday 13th November, 3:40PM at the SVA Theatre.
The director and film subject, Steve McCurry, will also participate in a Q&A after the screening.
The documentary is an intimate portrait of renowned American photographer Steve McCurry, who has opened up for the first time about his 40-year career and how he has braved hardship and faced loneliness to create some of the most iconic images of our time.
The one thing more poignant than McCurry’s pictures is his tumultuous career which he’s spent travelling the globe largely alone, capturing candid snapshots which depict the complexity of human life. The film’s director, a close friend of the Magnum photojournalist, was able to follow McCurry around the world and conduct exclusive interviews with family, friends, colleagues, and with the photographer himself, to bring to life the stories behind some of the most iconic photographs of the 20th century.
With unique access to the photographer’s creative process and unpublished images, we discover how McCurry’s vulnerabilities in early life set him on the path to greatness. We also witness first-hand his commitment to record what defines and unites humankind in his pursuit of color – a race against time in an increasingly fractured and culturally homogenous world.
The film will also be available to view online for 24hrs from the 14th November 12:00PM. You can find more information on the DOCSNYC website.
McCurry, The Pursuit of Color is a Polar Star Films & Intrepido Films production in association with SWR-ARTE, and distributed by Dogwoof.
