We are thrilled to announce that La Fuerza, a feature fiction fillm currentlyin development, has been officially selected for the prestigious Sofia Meetings Co-production Market.
A key industry event at the Sofia International Film Festival this March, the Sofia Meetings bring together emerging and established filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals from across Europe to foster collaboration and support promising projects in development.
About La Fuerza
Set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Spanish Civil War, La Fuerza tells the gripping story of pioneering French philosopher Simone Weil, who arrives in Spain in 1936 to witness the anarchist revolution firsthand. Drawn into the armed struggle against dictator Franco’s fascist army, she soon finds herself deeply conflicted between her staunch pacifist ideals and the brutal reality of war. As the conflict unfolds, she embarks on a profound journey of moral reckoning, which will shake, and rebuild, the very principles that have defined her life.
The script for La Fuerza is a collaboration between filmmaker Xavier Artigas, who recently published a book on Simone Weil, “Viure la Força” (Live the Force), and acclaimed screenwriter Pamela Katz. Katz is widely recognised for her collaborations with renowned filmmaker Margarethe von Trotta, having co-written Hannah Arendt (2012), Rosenstrasse (2003), and Vision (2009), all of which explore powerful historical figures and political themes with depth and nuance.
A Promising Co-Production
La Fuerza is a co-production between Polar Star Films and Os Lo Dije Media. The selection of La Fuerza at Sofia Meetings marks a significant milestone in its development, offering a valuable platform to connect with potential partners, financiers, and distributors who can help bring this important story to the screen.
