The 27th edition of the Thessaloniki International Documentary Film Festival will host the world premiere of Mums, the latest documentary by filmmaker Ariadna Seuba. The film will participate in the festival’s Open Horizons section, competing for the Audience Award.
Shot over four years, Mums offers an intimate, deeply personal look at the emotional and physical challenges of postponed motherhood. Through the lens of director Ari, the documentary follows the journey of Anna (41) and Ari (32) as they navigate the rollercoaster of fertility treatments, resilience, and love. Despite the hardships, the film captures their humor and unwavering support for each other.
Ariadna Seuba, known for her work on Operació Globus (2019), as well as producer of documentary short This is Not a Love Story (2016) and the feature Speechless (2015), brings a raw and immersive storytelling approach to Mums. The film has already garnered industry recognition, winning the First Look on Spanish Cinema Award at Locarno PRO 2024 and being selected for prestigious development labs, including the Thessaloniki Pitching Forum, D’A Film LAB Barcelona, and DocsBarcelona Campus.
With its intimate storytelling and timely themes, Mums is set to be a standout entry in Thessaloniki’s Open Horizons section, offering a heartfelt exploration of love, resilience, and the realities of modern motherhood.
Mums is a Polar Star Films and Intactes production in co-production with 3Cat, with the support of ICEC Generalitat de Catalunya and Antaviana Films. World distribution is by Movies For Festivals.
