Multiple prize-winning film My Name is Violeta will be showing on Sense Ficció, TV3 this March as part of its season dedicated to human rights.
Described by Jordi Basté, RAC1 as “tender and moving” and winner of the Amnesty International Catalunya prize for the film’s defence of human rights, its struggle to transform reality and its high cinematographic value.
“Transsexuality is a social taboo that often entails rejection, discrimination and violation of the rights of trans people. Amnesty distinguishes this documentary because it shows the limbo that transgender people face in an agile and positive production, as well as making visible their normalization, and contributes to the construction of a fairer, more open and inclusive society. ”
The story of two very different families reflects the fragile balance between acceptance and rejection that transgender children face. Violeta, the 11 year-old daughter of well-known adult movie star Nacho Vidal is having a smooth ride for the moment. Quite the opposite to Alan, whose life ended in tragedy.
My name is Violeta, premiered at Malaga Film Festival and has gone on to win various awards including the Audience Award and Amnesty International Award at DocsBarcelona, the Gilbert Baker Best in Festival Prize, Best Documentary Special Mention CineHorizontes, Young Jury Prize Memorimage and Audience Award Lesgaicinemad.
