SYNOPSIS

ONLY ON EARTH takes us on an immersive and visually striking journey into Southern Galicia, one of Europe’s most vulnerable wildfire zones. During the hottest summer on record, both humans and animals struggle to cope as inextinguishable fires draw closer.

Wild horses have roamed the Galician mountains for centuries, playing a crucial role in fire prevention by curbing flammable undergrowth – but their numbers are dwindling as human development clashes with nature. Through the eyes of the horses, a young cowboy, a seasoned fire analyst, a devoted equine vet, and a farming family on the frontlines, the film reflects on the fragile balance of our natural world and human-animal relations.

Micropsia Cine
“ONLY ON EARTH manages to perfectly convey not only the damage that the fire is causing in the communities but, and perhaps this is its greatest achievement, to show the resilience and effort of the local inhabitants who see what is happening with fear and anguish but continue to fight to confront it. “

Film-Rezensionen
“Only on Earth is not one of those moralizing documentaries that try to lecture the audience (…). Petré speaks of the impending environmental catastrophe that is coming our way as a result of climate change. (…) The work (…) uses these juxtapositions to show what is at stake for all of us, but without packing it into leaden monologues. Petré prefers to let the images speak for themselves.”
