Award-winning documentary Idrissa, Chronicle of an ordinary death released online in Spain on Filmin. Winner of the Alcances Audience Award, FIC-CAT Best Documentary Award, Montserrat Roig Award, the Screenly Award at Documenta Madrid 2019 and XII Gaudí Awards candidate.
Idrissa, Chronicle of an Ordinary Death charts the case of Idrissa Diallo and the events that led up to his mysterious death. Having dismissed the case, the Spanish justice system blocked all access to the police file making it almost impossible to find out why this young Guinean died in a cell in Barcelona. The film’s investigative team launched a mammoth search: for Idrissa’s body, his family, for justice, and to discover what happened that night in a cell in the controversial migrant detention centre.
Beyond the lyricism of its narration, the documentary is structured as a thriller, unfolding in the style of a road movie filmed as direct cinema. Idrissa, Chronicle of an ordinary death is immersed in the tradition of political cinema, the type of that leaves no-one indifferent, in its quest to uncover and discover answers.
Idrissa, Chronicle of an Ordinary Death by the directors of Ciutat Morta Xavier Artigas and Xapo Ortega, is a production of Polar Star Films and Metromuster, with the support of ICAA, ICEC, MEDIA, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and TV3; and with the collaboration of Tanquem els CIE, Irídia and La Directa.
