What happens when the place we call home is slowly disappearing? This is the challenge the Guallar Family must confront in When The Mountain Rumbles: a story depicting a tender, sometimes painful struggle to preserve a unique way of life.
The film began as chance encounter between director Alba Bresolí and the three Guallar brothers, the only remaining inhabitants of an abandoned Aragonese village, now in ruins. 4 years in the making, the project has become a means to amplify the voices of those who are too often ignored or silenced, living on the margins of urban society. The Guallar’s own voices remind us that dignity, humor and imagination are all part of how we survive in a globalized world, which is constantly transforming.
A portrait of the beauty and hardship of rural living, a revindication of “España vaciada” and a reminder of the importance of having a place we can belong – When The Mountain Rumbles continues to strike a nerve with audiences across Europe, in particular with younger viewers who continue to award the film with prizes.
